What you need to do if you move to the UK or you are already here

By the end of 2020 you can move to the UK freely, without any restrictions. All EU citizens that live in the UK should apply to stay in the UK after Brexit. To apply for 'pre-settled' or 'settled status', you need to arrive in the UK by 31 December 2020.

• If you’ve lived in the UK for at least five years by 31 December 2020 - you should apply to the EU Settlement Scheme for ‘settled’ status.
• If you’ve lived in the UK for less than five years by 31 December 2020 - you should apply to the EU Settlement Scheme for ‘pre-settled’ status.
• If you’ve just arrived in the UK or you are going to arrive any time this year - you only need to prove you’ve lived in the UK for at least 1 day in the last 6 months to get your ‘pre-settled’ status.

The process of application of the settlement status is very easy. You can apply online – just prepare the following documents and information and send them using the UK Government website.  

• an identity document - your passport, national identity card
• a digital photo - you can take a selfie during the application
• your National Insurance number (NINO) or proof of how long you've lived in the UK
• a mobile phone number
• an email address
